During a wild segment on “The View,” show co-host Whoopi Goldberg went berserk and unleashed at her own network, ABC, over drama relating to its hit show, “Dancing with the Stars.” That show decided to include convicted felon and con artist Anna Sorokin, who will perform this season and was arrested over a con having to do with a pretend fortune and lavish lifestyle in New York. Whoopi was mad over what she saw as hypocrisy.
As background, Sorokin spent 17 months in prison and has been on house arrest since being released from prison in October of 2022 over a con that inspired the hit Netflix series “Inventing Anna.” Sorokin famously, or perhaps infamously, pretended to have a massive, 60-million euro fortune and used her cons and lies to live a lavish life in New York City. Now, she’ll be competing in Dancing with the Stars in an ankle bracelet.
Whoopi, going berserk over the matter, snapped that ICE seems to take her crimes less seriously than other offenses, saying, “I think back to the families who have had family members arrested by ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] who have gone to the courts to get their dad or their brother or their mother back, and this woman, they gave her permission to go do this. Now, should I think there’s a reason? Is there a two-tiered system here with ICE?”Co-host Joy Behar chimed in, saying that Sorokin was allowed on because she is “pretty.” Goldberg, continuing her rant, said, “I don’t understand why she gets to stay.” She continued, ” “I’m listening to people b—- about what’s going on at the border, and I’m listening to people b—- about all these people who shouldn’t be here, well, what the hell, man? How does this work?”
Then, turning her fire from ICE and its supposed hypocrisy to ABC, saying, while gesturing her hand to her face like a slap, “We’ve got to support the network, I get all of that. [but it is a big slap] in the face of a lot of people who’ve been trying to make their way back to this country.” By that she seemed to mean illegal immigrants.
“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin also attacked the idea of ABC and ICE letting Sorokin compete on the show, saying, “When you think about it, she defrauded so many people and then spent two years in prison, and then had to spend another 18 months in prison for overstaying her welcome and overstaying her visa, so she committed another crime and what is the, I don’t know, consequence of it? A bejeweled ankle monitor, a federal bejeweled ankle monitor and a spot on a television show.”

Hostin commented on Sorokin during an episode of “The View” in 2023, during which the hosts spoke about the hit Netflix show “Inventing Anna” and Sorokin’s release from ICE custody, saying, “I mean, she’s a young, blonde woman of a certain complexion, and that’s probably part of it it… Part is that I find fascinating is she got paid $300,000 from Netflix for that series.”
