Illegal immigrant Jose Ibarra has been found guilty on all 10 counts.
IIbarra stood trial in Athens, Georgia, accused of murdering nursing student Laken Riley, 22, while she was running on the University of Georgia campus on Feb. 22. Ibarra asked not to be tried by a jury, so he was tried by a judge instead.
“The trial began Friday, and prosecutors called more than a dozen law enforcement officers, Riley’s roommates and a woman who lived in the same apartment as Ibarra. Defense attorneys called a police officer, a jogger and one of Ibarra’s neighbors on Tuesday and rested their case Wednesday morning,” the AP reported.
“Prosecutor Sheila Ross told the judge that Ibarra encountered Riley while she was running on the University of Georgia campus on Feb. 22 and killed her during a struggle. Riley, 22, was a student at Augusta University College of Nursing, which also has a campus in Athens, about 70 miles (115 kilometers) east of Atlanta,” the outlet added.
Earlier this year, Donald Trump did what a president should do and what President Joe Biden did not, as he reached out to the family of University of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, whose life was ended by an illegal immigrant.
He met them backstage at his rally in Georgia and a photo emerged of the former president hugging Riley’s mother.
“I met her beautiful mother and family backstage,” he said to the crowd in Rome, Georgia. “They said she was like the best. She was always the best to us. They admit that she was the best, and she was the first in her class. She was going to be the best nurse. She was the best nursing student. She was always the best. She was the brightest light in every room, they told me.”
“She was the whole world to her parents and to her sister and just to the whole family,” he said.
